Neutral is suppose to be at 12:00 (straight up and down), forward WOT is suppose to be 9:00ish and Reverse WOT is suppose to be at 3:00ish. Now Neutral is at 10:00, forward is at 7:00 and Reverse is at 1:00. Reverse also engages before where Neutral suppose to be, around 11:00. Everything works as it should, I can drive the boat just fine but it gets sketchy when Im trying to reverse and it gets stuck on the neutral lock and I have to pull in the Neutral button and then shift to neutral which is in the forward position. Any ideas??

Welcome aboard.

I have an idea. Tell us what you're working on. Might help.

Also - Did this happen out of the blue or after some work was done?

Carnac says its the HMS Queen Elizabeth 1, and the slaves in the engine room are not paying attention to the E.O.T

Its a 1983 Glassmaster 16' Bow Rider with mercruiser 120hp and alpha one sterndrive. I did a cable adjustment because reverse wasn't engaging. I got reverse to engage and the cables needed minor adjustments. I also replaced the shift cable bellow.

It's fixed now? Or still busted?

Was it working OK before the cable adjust and bellow replacement? Did you open the control and the trouble started?

It is not fixed. It was normal after the cable adjustment and bellow repair. Had it running in the A.M. Then sometime in the P.m. it went out of wack. It happened after I was having trouble pulling my “Neutral Pull” on my lever to rev the engine instead of putting it in gear.

Moved into the Mercruiser section. I'll only guess the shift cable is out of adjustment.

Take lever off and adjust to proper position.

The only way that would work is if was removed and the position on the shaft will not fix a shifting problem.

Boppin - Go back and verify the cable adjustments.

Okay great thank you all for your responses, I will check adjustment again and then take off lever and see if it is in the correct position.

The center cap of the throttle popped off and revealed a single screw in the middle that was totally backed out. I readjusted the throttle and tightened the screw and we are back to normal. Such a weird little mishap.
