Throttle Linkage Adjustment

My motor is a 1982 90 HP.
I just put the carbs back on after a clean and rebuild and I need to adjust the linkages. After reading the manual, I'm uncertain about this adjustment. Should the butterflies in the carbs start to open as soon as the throttle starts advancing or should the butterflies wait to start opening until the timing reaches 4 BTDC (throttle pickup point from the manual)?

The throttle roller should be approximately 3/8" in diameter. If that throttle roller is a two piece roller.... smaller 1/8" diameter with larger clear covering to obtain the 3/8 diameter.... check the outer covering to make sure it is still okay. If cracking away, replace the roller with the proper 3/8" size one.

Check the throttle linkage between the carburetors to make sure that the throttle butterflies open and close at the same time (sync). You do not want one butterfly completely closed and one ever so slightly open.

The throttle butterflies should just start to open when the scribe mark on the metal cam is aligned dead center with the center of the throttle roller. It is at this point where the 4 degrees BTDC should exist.
