I own an evirude 70 hp and have been working on it for weeks but it still will not get any throttle when in the water but when the hose is on the end of the motor then there is lots of throttle there. We have put new plugs on, jput carb kits on all three and had them set up, checked the timming, a new stator, power pack,we have even so much as bought new gas tanks thought that maybe it was getting air. We are lost and so is everyone else we talk to about it, to us and them it doesnt make sense once submerged in water it will run in idle but not under load. We would really appreciate anyones ideas on what to do because we are baffled on what to try next. Thank You!

Re: Throttle Problems

Does the primer bulb remain hard when running? Have you tried pumping it while advancing the throttle? Sounds like a fuel problem, but you need to start eliminating possibilities before you build a new motor with parts.

Re: Throttle Problems

won't run under load eh? Sounds like your missing a cylinder. try grounding out the coils one at a time while the engine is running to see if there is a difference in rpm. if there is a difference in rpm on one cylinder then that is the one that isn't working. next try spraying some premix in that carb. If it makes a difference then it is a fuel problem. also check compression. also do a search on stalls under load. good luck!

Good advice dms, except if the grounded out cylinder DOESN'T make a difference in rpm, it's the bad one. ;)
Backlash

Re: Throttle Problems

Well thanks for all your advice but I am still in the "same" boat. Changed the primer bulb had the timming checked it says that it is suppose to run at 17 but it was running at 23 so we put it back to 17. Had the carbs linned up. The only thing that we have not tried yet was the gas mixture into the carbs hopefully we will get that done today.

Re: Throttle Problems

If it picks up when you pump the primer bulb it is time to get a fuel pump kit, not a new primer bulb. Probably a small hole in the fuel pump diaphram.

I'm sure that is what WildOne had in mind. :)
