throttle shift problem

this is my first boat (1991 bayliner - force 120 hp). as I accelerate the boat doesn't start picking up speed until the throttle shift is almost all the way forward (near the 9:00 position). :p

Do you mean the boat doesn't get up on plane, even though the engine revs up? Or do you mean the engine won't speed up until the throttle lever gets to the position you describe? If it's the latter, you have an engine issue.

it's the latter! not knowing much about mechanics of boats...I was hoping maybe a throttle cable needed to be tightened. please explain - why you think it's an engine problem.<br />thanks,<br />velcro
