New boat owner of a 97 Force 75hp. Previous owners must have done some work because spark plugs are new but they weren't even tightened enough. My mechanical abilities aren't much better.
Had troubles getting the engine to start and went to typical issues - I was getting spark, had fuel - finally got it to start at high throttle. Would putter at neutral and then stall. Adjusted the idle speed, cleaned up some of the carborator and it was better, but still not reliable at neutral or F/R idle.
Have it out now a d noticed when I'm in full throttle the plate barely moves which means my throttle shutters look almost closed. I'm shocked by this because I was getting to higher rpms and was able to cruise last weekend.
So I tried all the "rookie" fixes because I dont know what I dont know. Seems like I need the throttle cable to have almost an extra 1" of play to get full open. That simply isn't going to happen. Like I said, tried the rookie fox of tightening control cable, adjusting throttle link, all to no avail. Tried looking here and confirmed what I was doing simply wasn't going to work.
So, does anyone have any thoughts? Engine runs well when I have my control at full throttle, doesn't seem overly sluggish for a 75hp, but since I'm new owner, maybe I'm just under estimating its power. I was looking at the linc and sinc and that helped, but at least from what I could do, everything looked as expected.
At this point I cant align my throttle plate appropriately and get my shutters open more than 20% or so. Even if or misalign the plate (I know not advisable) I'm still around 60 absolute tops. Am I missing something simple? I appreciate any help, please be patient and pictures always hel . Thanks in advance!!
