i have a 1973 25hp evinrude, when going at full throttle and trying to slow down btwisting the tiller handle it feels like i need to turn the handle @ a little more then 1/4 turn before the rpm's drop and feels like i hit the brakes.i need to accel again to get the speed i need. i looked at the gears on the handle to the throttle tower to the linkage on the armature plate. there is some play in all parts, is it worth trying to fix or should i live with it? what part/parts should i replace first? the gear where the throttle tower seat in the bearing seams worn/loose. it has up and dowm play @1/8 inch. it look like when i push up on the bearing/gear it tightens up a little.
need help.

Re: throttle

I think there is supposed to be a bushing, that the throttle tower rests on. It holds the tower gear up against the gear coming from the tiller. My 35 hp does the same thing. I checked my manual, but it doesn't cover it.

You can watch on ebay, they come up once in awhile. Just search for "tiller handle."
