:facepalm:Well cant seem to get it running right,so im takeing it to the shop. I hope i dont regret it. Im pretty sure its a carb problem, it run and idled great till i put the rebuild kit in it now it will crank if sumone is back ther feathern the gas or if i screw the idle screw all the way in(the screw thats on the end of the throttle cable)it starts but rough n smokes when u give it gas it takes a sec before it wants to take any its like its boggn down before it takes any gas. My adjustment screws on the sides of carb is about a turn and a half out. Its never smoked before i put the kit on and it was a genuine holley carb kit. I hope its just my float not set right but i have tryd everthing i almost bought a new carb but thought i might have sumone look at it first. Hope im doing the right thing

If ain't broke fix it anyway right lol.... You probably just flubbed one of the needle valve float assys, Take it apart and re-inspect the bowls, gaskets are usually good for a couple R&R's especially the holley brand, provided you didn't overtorque.

It was flooding when i would shut the motor down. I could see gas dripping down the barrles(2bbl) for a few seconds. Thats the reason for the rebuild kit. Now the kit stoppd the drippn but cause all this now. Didnt no overtorquen it could mabye cause this problem..

No, I referred to overtorquing the screws just relating to reusing the gaskets, be careful and lay the gaskets right back in their prospective positions, done it many times.

nickdogg, did u figure out what was wrong with your carb? i am having the same problem with my 93 chris craft 5.0 omc cobra with a 2barrel 2300 holley carb. i installed a rebuild kit today and now its running so rich that its blowing black smoke and it wont run unless i keep the rpms above 2000. im gona take it back apart and reinspect the float level. i've never rebuilt a carb before so i must have messed up the float or?

Re: Throwing hands up Takeing it to the shop

i just got off the phone with a tech from holley. he said that the rebuild kit i purchased (#3-888) has a #125-65 power valve and my carb should have a #125-50 power valve (kit #703-30). they look almost identical from the outside. there are 2 different rebuild kits for the 2300 series marine carbs. i gues one is for a 500cfm and one is for a 300 cfm. make sure u used the correct kit. i'm gona put the correct power valve in tonight and i'll let u know if that fixes it

Does your carb have the 45degree gas inlet?

Yes, the 703-30 is for the 500 CFM, and the 3-888 is for the 300 CFM.
