Rice burners on water?
Do 4 Cylinders deserve to be heard?

Ayuh,.... 'n you ain't got a riceburner....

It'll sound more like a Tractor, without a muffler...

Sorry, V6's don't need thru-hull exhaust much less a 4-banger. Indy-car variations of them notwithstanding.

Re: Thru-Exhaust With 4 Banger

I thought about doing it to my V8, but not the right kind of boat so I gave that idea up. There's a reason only V8's have thru-hull exhaust.

Knocked that 2 stroke all the way off the boat the other nite when I hit that d--- log. put it back on the boat and went all the way back to landing with no trouble. Sure was glad to HEAR that 2 stroke runin.

It will sound weird at first, then will progress to "very annoying"...and then you'll have a big hole in your transom you have to fix...

Re: Thru-Exhaust With 4 Banger

not a good idea. your not dealing with small ci motors that rev high like a rice grinder.

why would you want to do that?

maybe on that old inline ford 188 motor (4 cyl) i could see it...

Only boats that should have thru-hull exhaust are those that don't have outdrives!

If you own the lake and have it to yourself, play to your hearts content.

Otherwise you do not have the right to intrude on others' peace with adolescent showoff stuff.

Not all 4 cylinder engines sound the same... Through hull with a 4 cylinder boxer engine, absolutely! Sounds better than any 8 cylinder out there...

Absolutley subjective, I don't care for the sound that much. I'd rather hear the rumble of an American V8. Now you want to start bringing in v10/V12's into the discussion, then we'll talk about whether it's better than the American V8.

Ran my stuff without an exhaust bellows this past weekend, sounds like a tractor on plane and goes good with the theme of the boat.

I've built and raced many four cylinders so I can appreciate their sound. But, emphatically, NO!
