Mike, those plastic/nylon thru-hull fittings will bake in UV from the sun and crack/break. However, they will last a long time if painted. They are intended for above the waterline use only.

Anything below the waterline needs to be bronze or stainless steel…or that new fiber-reinforced synthetic stuff that costs more than either bronze or ss.

SS thru hull fitting should not be used below the water line,if the boat is to stay in the water. They will break down too!Use bronze, not brass!

It sits way above the the water line. It is for the outlet for bilge pump. I increased the thickness of my transom on rebuild and all I find in my searches for a 5/8" hose fitting are for thicknesses up to 1-1/4 hull. I'd change the location but the hole is already drilled.

Re: thru hull fittings

Thanks, Prockvoan. Fixed it. Ss thru-hulls are not a problem below the water line. If ss were a problem, all those ss props and screw shafts wouldn’t be.

Mike, those nylon thru-hulls last only a few years in my area before becoming brittle and cracking if left unpainted. Bonze thru-hulls come in a smorgasbord of sizes and shapes with a hose nipple on the inside. They are commonly used for bilge pump discharging. You probably won’t need to re-drill the hole.

SS is fine if the boat is not left in the water for long periods of time.I would love to put SS props on my boat that stays in the water full time, they just don't make the for that reason.Everybody knows that alum, brass and bronze bends more then SS,thats why I would love some for props.
