I have decided to put one on my 85 AQ125A. Can anyone help me find into on where to place it and the best set up? Please don't waste your time trying to convince me to use the intake thru the leg. Not happening. Too many issues year after year.

Re: Thru Hull Raw Water Intake.

I recently converted to a brass clamshell mounted about 18 inches off center and one foot in from transom. Drilled straight up through hull, marine sealant'd the heck out of it, ball valve in engine bay, worked great fixing our flow problems...

Turns out the intake tube which connects to the hose on the drive was cracked but hard to see. It would work fine when submerged idling around, but when planing and out of water it would suck air, lose prime, and overheat.

Here is some basic information on thru hulls from a Mercruiser applications manual.
