I'm trying to get my 1982 25' Grady insured. I need to pass a survey, so I'm replacing the plastic thru hulls. Problem is, the head discharge is under the bathroom floor, with about 6 or 7 inches of space between the floor and the hull. The only access is from a cabinet under the galley sink, I can just reach the darn thing. A standard thru bolted vertical seacock type valve is not an option here, I've been measuring them and they're too high (and that's without the right angle piece I'd need). My only option is a mushroom type bronze thru hull with a right angle bronze piece and an in-line horizontal ball valve threaded to the right angle piece. I'm thinking 5200 the thru hull mushroom piece and jam nut to keep it from rotating (once I figure where the right angle piece will be pointing of course).

I have been asking all over the place and no one can tell me if this 3 piece setup will satisfy a surveyor/ins company. Please Advise! Thanks

PS. I do have a holding tank but I'd like to keep this option open (no pun intended).

I don't see a problem with your plan.

Yeah, no problem. Insurance companies don't like plastic thru hulls (and I don't blame them!). Make sure you use a fairing block against the inside of the hull.

Thanks Buttanic, I'd hate to spend the money doing it this way (the only way without moving the fitting or raising the bathroom floor) and then fail a survey cause of the 3 piece setup.

arks, why a fairing block inside the hull? It wouldn't be at a 22 degree angle as there's no fairing block outside where the mushroom piece will be. Do you just mean a wood washer to tighten the nut against?

Thanks guys

Well, yes. If the in/out surfaces are not parallel. a fairing block is used to take up the difference.
