the engine runs great , but when i checked the lower unit gear oil it was oil with white swirls , so i orderd new o-rings and oil retainers for the gear case assembly , so while i wait for my parts to arrive i took the lower unit off and the gearcase apart , so when i pulled the main drive shaft out the ring gear and thrust bearing basicly fell out , now it seems ther is no way for the thrust bearing to fit back in the housing , also it looks like the little key -like lip on the thrust bearing is half chipped off , does that lip fit into the little notch on the bottom of the gearcase housing? or does anyone know how the thrust bearing fits back in the housing.

Pinion gear goes in first. Then the thrust bearing, with the boss (lip) down. The boss goes between the two bosses in the gearcase.
