I need to re-kit my two Thunderbolt 800 Carbs but I was told by someone here that they are very tricky and I should just take it in to have it done. I have re-kitted auto carbs years ago and would like to save the dollars of having a boat mechanic do it. Is what this guy said true or is it worth my while doing it myself? If so, is there anything I should know first? I am also planning to do the water pump and impeller and the fuel pump diagram.

With a little patience and basic tools you can rebuild your own carbs, fuel pump, impellar, however I would recomend you have a manual to go by.I can only speak for myself but I had to do mine over because I was in a hurry and didnt make sure that I cleaned them GOOD. Its not hard or rocket science just do it right the first time.ood luck and happy boating.....

By all mean do it yourself.Just be careful that you put it back together right. Do 1 at a time. That way you have something to compare it to.Remember there is NOTHING your doing that takes any force. The fuel pump can be tricky, see what this guy did. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=472395
And Gomer said it, get a manual, the factory is best.

Thanks, I am fortunate in that I was able to pick up a complete OEM Service Manual for under $30 on ebay. I will get my kits ordered.
