Thunderbolt 800 Choke Question

After the carb re-kit, I got her all buttoned up and took her to the boat ramp to test her running. It took a few minutes of cranking to get her started but she did and she raced so I shut her off. After a few tries we manually worked the choke and she ran great but when letting the choke go she raced again. We worked the choke and ran her for a few minutes putting her in forward and reverse and she did fine. One of the guys said that my throttle lever should be adjusting the choke also but that is not happening and I see no way with this linkage for this to happen. I have checked the service manual and can't find anything on this situation. Have I hooked up something wrong or am I missing linkage to the choke? Not sure what to do next.

Sounds like the throttle linkage is not setup properly. Disconnect throttle cable from motor and check for proper operation. Have you performed a sync & link on the motor?

Choke is entirely independent of any other operation. It is not tied in any way to the throttle linkage.

Number 1. I dont think it was a good Idea to use form a gasket on the carbs, according to your pics your missing a nut on one of the carbs (manifold ).
Number 2. Your distrubutor collar and platte are not in the correct postion looks like the distributor is advanced too far and the carbs are still closed. The collar when the distributor is in the idle postion should not be touching the carb linkage. As the distributor advances/giving it some throttle then the carbs should start to open 4 to 6 degree's BTDC.Max advance should be set @ 21 degrees BTDC.At this point the distributor will not advance anymore, looking at the distributor where the throttle linkage is there is another set screw. This one must be set so the collar is just touching the carb linkage @ 21 degrees BTDC,So when you go full throttle it opens the carbs all the way and the distributor doesnt move. This is the hardest thing to explain. This took me forever to figure out myself. There is a write up on a link and sync for your motor here on iboats.Look at the frequent ask questions post.Good Luck..
