I have a 1974 115 mercury 6 cylinder inline with what I think is a Thunderbolt single coil electronic ignition that has no spark. They tell me module is not available. I purchased a used module & distributor that worked for a little while. Id like to know if there is an upgrade ignition kit for these engines. You may display information or send it to me at ElastilleroSpain@aol.com. Id appreciate a response.<br /><br /> Thanks

Re: Thunderbolt Ignition Question

It seems like Mercury doesn't like to maintain parts for their motors for very long. Sometimes NAPA has replacement parts for older outboards. NAPA has a lot more than automobile stuff.<br />Also, try these:<br /><br /> http://www.oldmercs.com/mark55.html <br /><br /> http://www.vintageoutboard.com/ <br /><br /> http://www.maxrules.com/ <br /><br /> http://www.dolleroffshore.com/parts.cfm <br /><br /> http://www.ezstoragemarine.com/outboard parts.htm <br /><br /> http://www.thesurf.com/boats/parts.htm

Re: Thunderbolt Ignition Question

Welcome to iboats, Garrote. Take the dist cap off and see if you can rotate the rotor with your finger. They are notorious for stripping-out. They are plastic rotor-to-metal shaft,so if it is stripped, this is your problem, and they must be changed out together as a single assmebly. They can be found on ebay sometimes, so if you're not in a hurry, check there.
