Thurst Washer replacement?

How do i know when i need to replace my thurst washer. is it a big deal (as in replace it because i just became the new owner of the motor) or should i be ok letting it stay.

It does not make full contact over the flat surface.You can see where it`s been rubbing.If it`s not wore these contact places really deep,then it`s okay,but if it`s wore really deep then replace it.They don`t normally wear unless it has many,many hours.If it`s loose on the splines,replace,if not then don`t...james
