This last weekend I noticed what sounded like a ticking sound when taking off with my '90 celebrity with the 4.3 v6. It almost sounded like a car with a cracked exhaust manifold. I haven't had the time yet to look but was just wondering if anyone would have any ideas on what it could be before I go searching. Thanks for any help

That sounds like preignition, if it only does it on acceleration, timing or bad fuel?

Ticking and cracked exhaust manifold don't sound like the same sound to me.

Could be many things...pre-ignition, noisy lifter, faulty exhaust flappers...

Have you had your head down in the engine compartment yet to have a closer listen?

You should try to rule out pre-igniton first so that you don't go burning a hole in the top of a piston.

I would check your timing first. Use an advance timing light and check it at all RPMs to see if the advance goes up somewhat linear.
