You might not need to drop the lower part of the gearcase. Try to line up the hole for the pivot pin using a flashlight and a nail (or something similar). With some patience, you can probably get the pin back in.<br /><br />If you still need to open the gearcase, work some penetrating oil around the screws, and let it set/soak. Using a slotted screwdriver that fits, tap a screw a couple of times to try to loosen it, then try to turn it out. If you budge it a little counterclockwise, add a little more oil and screw it back in a little -- then out, and back in -- repeat until it's out. The object is to get it out without breaking it off. It's important to use a large slotted head screwdriver to give you the leverage and to help avoid stripping the head of the screw. Try to get it out without heat. If you can't get the first one, add more oil and leave it alone while you go on to the others. <br /><br />When you have the screws out, you might consider buying replacements. Corrosion weakens them, and you have already stressed them in getting them out.
