I am trying to tighten the ski tow hook on my 1994 Four Winns Horizon 210. I removed the vents from the transom to try and access the back plate to to hook, but the part it attaches to is separated from the rest of the transom by fiberglass. Anyone else ever found this issue?

Not sureI'm reading it correctly but it sounds like it was installed before the cap was put on so you might not have access without removing the cap or modifying things to get to it

While digging more this morning, I found that I could access the bottom bolt through the engine compartment, but the top bolt seems to just blindly go into wood/fiberglass that I can see when I take the vent off. Not too sure if I should just put a bolt into the top hole or if it could damage the boat.

you wont damage the boat. It is the way it originally was made. Wood they went into wallowed out. Get a stainless screw and put it in just watch inside and make sure your not going into anything undesirable.

If it is dry in there. Best fix is make some peanut butter and put it in the hole and redrill for the screw.

Can you put a bolt in with a washer inside? If so, that wouild make it pretty strong. Just my opinion.

It doesn’t seem to have enough room for a bolt, but I will give it a shot and if I can’t, then I will put a screw in. I appreciate the help guys.

The top screw hole is for a trim screw to hold the escutchion plate. The backside of the hook should be a threaded stud and that should have a backer plate and locknut
