I'm trying to do the same thing right now with a 1978 20hp Merc. I'm ditching the controls for a tiller. I still want to keep the electric start though. <br /><br />So far I've ordered a tiller handle off eBay, and I'm trying to sort out the wiring so I know what goes where. <br /><br />I'm going to try to put a start button on the front of the engine along with a kill switch button. <br /><br />It may be easier to just put a manual pull start on it, but I'm lazy. lol<br /><br />If you do decide to do it, make sure you get the tiller handle AND all the linkage that goes with it. Sometimes the finding the linkage is the hardest part.
