Re: Tiller handles

Merc has a hydraulic tiller handle, I saw one last week , but they're not available yet, maybe next year. Honda, Merc, Suzuki, Yamaha, and BRP all make tiller models in 150 HP, although I haven't seen an E-Tec, but have heard about them.

Re: Tiller handles

So that we're talking about the same thing, The hydraulic system I discribed is a powered system so that even on 200+hp Tiller motors with a prop there's no steering torque. When you put pressure one direction or the other on the throttle (twist grip on tiller) it toggles back and forth slightly, this activates the hydraulic pump and turns the motor. There's no (almost no) effort from you to pull or push the motor even when running at high speed. Here in the NW we use tiller equiped Big motors with jet pumps all the time, 2 friends of mine have 300hp Yamahas with tillers, 200's are an everyday item. Some guys switch from a jet pump to a prop depending on where they're going to fish at that time of year and big OB's can be a bear to hang on to with a tiller and prop.

Merc has the Hydraulic tiller, but they're not for sale yet, maybe next year.

I'll need to go take some pics of the 300 Yamaha, maybe this week.
