I have been searching for a motor for a while and found a good deal on a 89 40ho johnson. Its tiller steer and I need helm control. Is it a PIA and waste of time to do this. does johnson make a kit for this sort of thing?

should be easy conversion, it needs to have the controls with the big red cannon plug on the electrical harness, internal and external. steering is easy with a teleflex system. you may have to change the internal harness, for the remote harness. do you have a boat with existing controls? if so what was is on it now?

I have a 78 75hp md#75843c evinrude that runs fine but I cant title it TPWD is being a PIA. The motor I want to by and convert is an 89 johnson 40hp tiller J40TTLCEC. I think 40hp is more suitable than a 75hp on this boat eanyway. Its a 72 doggett 15ft bass boat.

get a relative that is in a no title state, like GA, FL, to right a bill of sale. that is as long as the motor has not been titled in Tx. it should be an easy conversion, the controls and all should work, as long as the motor has the connections, or you need the conversion kit.
