I have a 1993 Johnson V8 250 Outboard. My boat stays in the water and docked through out the boating season. When I leave my boat I always raise my motor up out of the water as far as it will go. I have only had the boat a couple of years but it will not tilt up far enough to get the bottom of the motor completely out of the water beofre the tilt swith seems to stop or limits out. The bottom part of the motor that reamins in the water gets covered with scum and it discolers the paint from being in the water all summer.

Is this the way it is supposed to be? I see other motors completely out of the water. Is there an adjustment on the trim limit that would alow it to raise up another couple of inches and if so how would i do that.

Thanks

no adjustment, try moving some dead weight to the bow when docked. get a kid to scrub it once a month. use the boat more often. the more use a boat is the water gets used, the less maintenance.

Take a look at your overall set up. Keep in mind that a std length V8 is 23" not 20" even though they call it a 20" motor. A 25" motor is actually 28". We've found a lot of V8's just simply mounted too low. Once they are raised up the gearcase nose clears the water.

If it's on a shorter boat or the aft has a lot of weight, it may not clear the water. Naturally a hydraulic jackplate will cure all those issues. And may add performance as well.
