I have a 89 135 Black Max that at idle speed can trim prop out of water, but while riding only trims up half way. Can anyone tell me where the limit switch is on this motor and how to adjust it.

Re: tilt and trim limit switch on mercury

Im not sure about a trim limit switch, but after you reach the trim limit, which is not all they way up, the system then uses tilt system to raise the engine the rest of the way up. The tilt will not hold engine up under power, if prop is part of the way in water. You should be able to trim the engine to where pad is just touching the trim rams, apply power, trim rams should hold. I guessing your engine has 3 rams 2 for trim, 1 for tilt. If it pushing the trim rams to bottom of travel, the pilot check valves are the first things to check.

Re: tilt and trim limit switch on mercury

Thanks Clanton, Let me give a little more information on this. When engine is in gear at trolling speed I can tilt motor all the way up until prop comes out of the water. When at cruising speed engine will only trim up about 3/4 of the way which will not give me the right bow lift, in other words over half of the boat is still in water at full speed. What I am looking for is a way to adjust the trim to give me the right amount of bow lift at full speed. I have been told there is a trim limit switch either on the motor or in throttle controller by drivers seat. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The limit switch may be on starboard side engine mounting bracket. If you are using the one switch on control handle to raise the engine all the way up, probley does not have limit switch.
