Call me stupid, but...I have never been fortunate enough to own and motor large enough to use auto tilt/trim. What is the difference between "tilt" and "trim"? I am just curious so that I can follow some of these posts. My little 9.9 has manual holes for adjusting tilt.....or is it..trim?

Re: tilt and trim,..whats the difference?

The holes in yous 9.9 will adjust only trim. I had a 15 Evinrude years ago and depending on the load in the boat I generally ran in the 2nd or 3rd hole on the mount. A tilt and Trim has two speeds at wich it raises the engine. When the engine is all the way down and you start to raise it, it moves slowly so you won't raise it too much while underway. After a certain point the tilt speed will increase to raise the engine all the way up. Hope this helps if it makes sense to you. I've necer been known as a writer.
