tilt and trim

Ihave a 1981 150 mercury when I hit my switches to raise or lower my motor all I get is a clicking sound, do I need a new motor or could it be a switch? steve

It could be a low charged battery. Same thing was happening to my motor. My battery was not holding a good charge, and the relays were just clicking. Check the simple stuff before you worry about the big stuff.

I noticed there is a little dip stick on my trim motor it reads wery low would this keep my motor from kicking on ? steve

First, I would make sure your battery is fully charged.<br /><br />Second, with your motor trim fluid low,fill it with power trim fluid. If you don't have that, you can use ATF fluid(automotive trans. fluid)<br /><br />Try these tips and see if they helps, if they do not, you need to purchase a manual in order to run electrical tests.Or just take it in to a Merc. dealer for service.

Buns: Check your solenoids! Be sure your connections are working there. I had a similar problem, and that check solved it. (Some advice I got from the chat was to swap at the solenoids, but I didn't feel confident in going that route; never really had to, because the problem was solved before I got there.)<br /><br />Good Luck!<br /><br />Gil
