tilt and Trim

Need some help. I just got my first boat. A 1995 bayliner Capri with a 3.0 Mercruiser. I am having some trouble with tilt and trim. It will go down fine but when you press the switch to start back up it only goes a little ways up and just stops. Does anyone no what I need to look for. I have topped off all the fluid level. <br /><br />Thanks<br />Chris

That is how it's supposed to work. The first movement is trim, the second part is tilt.<br />When under way, you only use the trim secion.<br /><br />Here is a newer owners manual that may help. See page 32.<br /> Owners Manual

Look for another up button. It is supposed to stop at the top of the trim stage and you have to push the tilt button to raise it further.
