Tilt cylinder part

Hi, my tilt/trim has been leaking down so I took a look at it and noticed a leak on the right tilt cylinder. I tried to tighten the nut on cylinder but I noticed that it wouldn't get any tighter and found the the clamp or whatever it is was stripped. It is the metal piece that goes around the cylinder and pulls the cable into the cylinder. I marked it in the picture here. Anybody know what this part is called or where I can get a new one?

Usually the collar is bad and the thread plate is good. If your collar is good and your thread plate is bad then you can fix in about 15 minutes. Cut out old aluminum plate with stripped threads. Make new one from 3/8" aluminum stock and pop rivet into place using aluminum pop rivets. Your WH 1441 or equal fitting goes through collar so that pop rivets don't have to bear brunt of load.

Re: Tilt cylinder part

Thanks pnwboat and rritt. I was able to find the part locally but need to know the correct way to replace the part. It looks like I need to take the cylinder completely off in order to put the new part on. What is the best way to do this?

Rritt, I guess I'm not sure what fitting or shock eye you are speaking of. The new part is a one piece round piece like a collar that doesn't look like there is a way of being put over the cylinder without taking the cylinder off. If this is what you were describing, could you be a little more specific?

don't take off boat. remove top mounting shaft and slip over shock eye.
