I saw a free 1978 evinrude 70hp on cl today
so i went to get it
does the 1978 share any parts with my 1983 evinrude 70hp?
then the guy also gave me a power tilt
but i can't find much info about it
can anyone tell me about this power tilt and how to see if it works?

Probably not heavy enough to use as an anchor. But the price was right

Put it in a vice in an upright position, check the oil level in it, get some jumper wires with a 12 volt battery and try it. Let us know what happens.

and one for power up and one for power down?

Blue is power up, green is power down. There's a reservoir on it with a plug. Remove and fill that with ATF.

That trim system came off of an early 78 motor or earlier. It will not fit on your 1983 70 hp the rest of the 78 motor will interchange with your 1983 model. It may not even fit the 78 model depending on which transom brackets it has. 1978 was the year they changed the the T/N/T system to the 3 ram which is what your 83 model needs.

No Title

Could i swap over the brackets?
I tested it and it seems to go up and down
My other worry is all the corrosion on the ram
How can i fix this?

That is an obsolete system parts are hard to find and are expensive. My 2 cents is find a 3 ram system from 1980 to the early 90s motors and put that on.

Remember its tilt only and will not raise motor under power...1200 rpm and below it will raise it but anything over that it will bypass and return to full down.
