Hey folks,

1968 18hp Evinrude #18803

The mechanism to hold my motor in the raised position I believe is working properly. The release under the motor cover below the carb works properly to lock/unlock the stand.

My question is...How does the motor lock in the down position? The release mechanism doesn't have anything to lock onto in the down position.

Won't the motor tilt up in reverse if it doesn't lock in the down position.

I look through my service manual for a photo of the area. No luck.

That little lever between the transom clamps should lock the tilt/trim pin. Have a look:

69 is the lever, which works thorough the rod 66 to activate the reverse lock 71 and 74. The reverse lock grabs the tilt/trim pin 24. The whole think is sprung so it releases if you hit bottom.

Does this work with the shift lever so it locks when you shift to reverse or is it a manual lock only ?

Paul

Thanks for the help. The "tilt/trim" pin is the missing culprit.

What would we do without you??

JR
