Me again!! My tilt motor for my '75 Johnson 115 V4 has me and my buddy scratching my head. He knows what he is doing, so I just follow his lead. Problem is one trip out, tilt motor worked, next time didn't. Richard looked it over with me and when we removed the cover discovered a bad wire. Replaced wire. Before we did anything, the tilt motor would go "down" but inside wiring box you would hear a "clunk." as if the contacts were connecting, but motor wouldn't kick in. After putting it back together it wouldn't do anything. Discovered one of the spades has disconnected. Put back together. Now, "down" is working again, but blows the fuse when we hit "up." He ran an ohm meter on every lead and connection and can find nothing. In his words, "the stupid thing should work." Under the cover, there are 3 red leads which connect with spades. One is over by itself and the other 2 are pretty close together. We're sure we didn't get those wires crossed, but if we did, would this create the problem I'm describing? Sorry for all the words, but I'm trying to describe what's happening. blt--again!!

Re: Tilt motor blowing fuses

Not sure about your particular unit, but some of the older ones you can access the brushes in the pump motor and clean them up. This will lower the current draw. Good luck

Yes, one of the three times we've had the thing apart I cleaned the brushes. We've checked everything we can think of--selonoid (sp?), but still nothing.--maybe we should try duct tape!!blt
