The tilt pushbutton on my "89 Force 85 is going bad; (one works; one might maybe; mostly not. I know this part is NLA. I haven't tore it apart yet to look internally. My question is would a spring loaded toggle switch work? It looks like a common wire for the voltage and 2 wires for motor direction. My other concern is current draw. Advice please? RF

Not knowing how your present switch is setup, if it is a standard SPDT or even DPDT seems a regular spring loaded center off toggle switch would work. As far as current is concerned, if there is relays involved, then any spring loaded center off appropriate switch should work. But if there is no relays (solenoids) involved, then you need to verify how much current is being switched and make certain to use a replacement that can handle that current rating.

Here is the wiring diagram which shows the use of relays inline. By using relays there is very little current going across the contacts of the switch. So a light duty Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) momentary ON / OFF/ momentary ON (what your calling spring loaded toggle) switch will work. It could also be the relay which looks like standard relays.

Switch the up/down wires on the switch. If the problem is now the other direction the switch is bad. If the problem stays the same the relay, contacts, or wiring is the user.
