Tilt sensor randomly working

This is my first time using this forum. I have a 1997 Larson 226 LXI with a 5.7 -250 drive. The outdrive tilt sensor started acting up yesterday. When I turn the boat in one direction the sensor stops working and they turn the boat in the other direction the tilt sensor works again. Any idea on what is causing this?

I am new here and no expert but my sensor did much the same and then quit. The wires broke right where they are soldered to the sensor under the epoxy. I used my dremel and removed the epoxy and soldered new wires to the sensor and the original lead, covered it backup with silicon and it works great and did not cost $130.00 Hope this helps
