Tilt stuck all the way up, but pump works

Okay, so my alpha 1, is stuck all the way up. When I press the down lever, the pump sounds liek it is trying to move it down, but no amount of pushing the drive down or flipping the switch makes the thing move. It was working fine all day, any ideas? I think since the pump is actually making noises it wouldnt be the solenoids, am I right?

They can sometimes get jammed up when the drive is full up and you keep the pump on and really over pressure it.<br />Just hit the down button for a few seconds and go back and physically push the drive down and see if it goes then.

I tried that, And it doesnt move, any other ideas?

you have a forzen trim cyl. I had that happen with mine. Found out the port side trim cly had frozen up, i took it apart and banged it with a hammer till it came loose. Now it seems to work fine. <br /><br />Good luck<br /><br />Big-E

I had the same thing happen. Here is the advice I got from the great folks at Mercstuff.com<br /><br />

<br />If your drive is 1984 or newer, it is most likely the rear bushing on the trim cylinder has siezed up. You have to remove the end bushing and either run a .750 reamer through the bushing and replace the o-rings or replace the rear bushing. See below<br /><br /> http://www.mercstuff.com/trimcylparts.htm <br /><br />to find out which one it is Remove the rear pin going thru both cylinders and see which one does not go back.<br />

When I bought my boat the outdrive (Alpha 1) was stuck in the up position. While I pushed the down button I had a friend, (a LARGE friend ), jump up and down on the outdrive. Believe it or not, it worked! Has worked fine since.
