My Tilt + Trim started acting up so I removed the cap on reservoir and grey liquid came running out (Water mixed with oil?). Tried to bleed the air out of the system by running the engine up and down a few times, more liquid came out and it quit working. Removed the motor/pump and it had the grey liquid in it. This unit had never been opened up, (factory paint covered). I think the water is getting in at the rams. How hard is it to change the seals on the rams and where do I get the seal kit? Any advice appreciated.

Now I am thinking that the grey liquid is burnt oil and there is no water getting in.

I don't know of any seal kits for that 'off-shelf' anymore. But all is not lost. Since it is a hydrolic ram assembly, any hydrolic repair shop can repair them. Air could be the 'contaminant' also, foaming-up from a low level, or sitting for long periods. But that is a question best answered by lubedude. He is the resident hydro-guru.

Cleaned up the motor and pump unit (the brushes and springs are still in good shape) and sealed it all back up. Installed it back on the boat with new fluid. It will tilt down just fine but going up it starts to bind so I have to help it by lifting the the prop end of the motor while while pressing the switch up.
I tried raising and lowering the motor several times to get the air out but the fluid is full of tiny bubbles. It got dark so I will try again later. I think now air is getting in instead of water since its setting in my driveway.
