Tilt/trim cleaning help

OK I finally ran out of quick fix ideas and decided to tear the tilt/trim unit apart. I have all the valves, pistons, springs and o-rings out. That thing was really dirty inside. Theres small particles everywhere. I want to make sure I get it as clean as possible before I put it back together with the new o-ring kit. What is the best thing to use to flush it out. I was thinking either Diesel fuel or Kerosene. Anybody know of anything else that would work better or know whether either of those will mess anything up?

Thanks

Re: Tilt/trim cleaning help

Well seems I may have found possible part of my problem. I was very careful when I took everything apart. After cleaning the valves and getting ready to put the new o-rings on I realized that I'm missing the little ball that sits below the trim down pump relief valve and the one that sits under the impact sensor valve. I know that they were not there when I took it apart. I'm thinking somebody probably took it apart previously and either lost them or forgot to put them in. Now I have to wait 3-4 days to get them. And since the local shop here sucks and doesn't carry anything for this I had to order them. 5 dollars worth of parts and 6 dollars for shipping. I don't get it. Wouldn't think that 2 little balls would cost that much to ship. OK i'm done ranting now.
