Greetings! I'm having a very difficult time locating the proper hoses for my outdrives. The boat is a 1964 Cruisers Inc Barnagat 25. I'm told the outdrives must have been replaced in the last 40 years as tilt/trim wasn't available until 1967. The serial numbers of the outdrives are 3215322 and 4180997. The hose connections are INSIDE the gimbal area and not below the drive like the early 70's models. The hoses were replaced at one time and the PO actually ran the hoses through the bellhousing holes. As I understand it, the formed metal lines should have come through the bellhousing, leaving the rubber hoses OUTSIDE of the bellhousing. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Howdy Dino!

I had a 1966 Mercruiser #1 drive and that's the way it was. I sold it in 2005, but some 10 years before that, I "replaced" lines by having an Aeroquip dealer crimp new hoses on the existing steel lines.

The steel formed lines did indeed come thru the gimbal mount as you indicate. They put SS braided hose on them.

As old as yours is, it doesn't really matter how you do it as long as it works.

You might also find some info here: --> http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/manuals/mercruiser1.html#/0

Thank You Rick! I was thinking of making new steel lines so they can be serviced from the outside. Finding 1/8" lines where I can see them and make sure they fit has been difficult. McMaster Carr has material, but I don't know if it is the same. Then there is the flaring tool. I didn't think of having someone like Aeroquip modify my lines. Unfortunately, some were replaced with steel braided lines and the braids are shot. Yestersay I was looking INSIDE the boat and wonder how good those lines are! Here is how the lines look on the second drive...

The trim lines are no longer available. In the link below is the parts breakdown but that's about it. May have to upgrade your hole system if you are unsuccessful finding parts at places like ebay and craigs list

BTW the link is for a 1964 setup

Yeah. You're not going to buy those lines unless you find some new(old-stock) lines.........but the rubber on them would probably be rotten by now!

I think just about any NAPA or other autoparts/farm/HD equip supply place that does Aeroquip or other type hydraulic lines can make you anything you want!

I would get the correct size tubing (SS) and a tubing bender and bend it how you want it, then take it to the "hoser" and have them do the crimping etc.

How long are the hoses, going from the manifolds on down to the trim cylinders?

Maybe they used newer off the shelf trim hoses (incorrect part, but works) to replace the what was there before.
