I have a 88 Bayliner 1950 bowrider with the Chevy 3.0 140 hp engine. I launched the boat and lowered unit into the water using the tilt switch to warm up the engine. When I tried to lower it to the running position the unit was dead. I opened the manual release to lower the unit to use the boat, however I need to raise it again to get it onto the trailer. The solonoid swithces are clicking. I am getting current to the connector between the solonoids and the motor leads. The problem appears to be the motor but after reading peoples earlier comments about testing I am not sure. Do I need to have the motor connected to check the power coming out of the solonoids?, If they are clicking can't I assume they are fine? How do I raise the lower unit without a pump to transport the boat to my home for more repairs. Thanks in advance.

Just because they click doesn't mean it's good.Take a jumper lead and go from 12v.+ to the large blue(blue for sky green for grass)wire and the drive should go up if the motor is good.If this happens replace the solenoids.

Chris, you should be able to raise the outdrive by hand and tie it up with a rope to the transom cleats.
