I have a 1998 4.3GL Volvo with an SX drive. The trim worked fine last year, but this year in getting it ready for the water I hear an intermittent squeal when lowering the drive. It sounds perfectly normal when raising it. Also, when it reaches the bottom of its travel (drive down) it does not bog down like it does when the top of the travel is reached, it just squeals more. It does go up and down like it should, but that squealing cannot be good. I took the trim motor/pump/reservoir assembly out and took the motor off and ran it in both directions and it seemed fine. I checked to see if the inline filters on the pump were clear and they appeared to be. I then cleaned the reservoir and reassembled and refilled it with new trim fluid. It didnt seem to make a difference. Is the problem with the pump/valve assembly, or is there something else I should look at. I dont want to replace the pump valve body if its noise is a symptom of some other problem. Thanks.
