Tilt/Trim: Motor goes up but sometimes not down!

My 1989 Yamaha 70 ETLF, the "UP" on the tilt/trim works fine every time. However, 1 out of every 25 times it won't come back DOWN. I have to click the tilt/trim on throttle and on motor a bunch of times and then it will work. Yesterday I trimmed up to go to a sand bar and it would not go back down when we were ready to leave. It took a good 15 minutes of clicking/resting/etc before it surprised us and went down. It worked fine for the rest of the day.

Any ideas?

Check all connections on T&T relays, could be a bad ground or other connection, but also could be internal to the relays. Just remember the relays have to reverse the polarity back and forth so could be the connection to ground or the connection to the positive

I was just out in it happened again. I took the cowling off and could hear/feel the clicking in the UP relay (i assume that is the fuse looking thing) but did not here anything in the DOWN relay. The screw and ground lug to the block do have corrosion on them, is cleaning those pieces enough or replace the whole ground wire? If the relay wasn't clicking wouldn't you just replace it? ---My thought is the UP relay works on the same ground as the DOWN, one works all the time one doesn't...

Thoughts...
