If its water intrusion damaging it, the units sealing integrity its being damaged on installation or if its failing electrically internally bad connectionns or insufficient voltage will damage it. Is it a aftermarket trim motor????

The motor went bad or the whole unit?Being in the N/E the salt water is very rough on these units.
If they aren't sealed good they can go quick.Electricity and salt water a deadly combination.
I always paint and seal the units before I'm done with the unit and give it back to the customer.
Use paint or any rubber sealer .They sell liquid electric tape. That seals things good.J

Re: Tilt/Trim motor problems

The motor I got was from ebay and they said new mercury motors....The motors should be factory sealed but when I bench tested the motor water was coming out where the wires go thru the case so I sent it back and they sent me a new motor.......... 2nd motor I have not looked at yet and I will be sending back. If I find water in this one maybe there rebuilds?

Re: Tilt/Trim motor problems

sounds like bad luck..

A lot of the chinese motors that I have dug into use a plastic molded brush card that warps if it gets hot. The aluminum alloy doesn't seem to be as strong as the American stuff. They have a tendency to use plain steel thru-bolts and sealing washers which can rust out quickly. And other stuff. But the cable entrance has always been good. It's a relatively simple thing to design.
