I need a complete set-up for tilt and trim designed for a 1973 Evinrude 85 hp. Of course I'd take any tilt and trim that would fit without making major adjustments. :)

Super good information. Thanks ezeke! You have probably saved me much time, worry and work. I just joined this forum and am already getting great results.

will the factory 40 50 & 60HP trim & tilt used during 1980's fit his 197x 85HP? The pump and rams fit ... but will the saddle and brackets fit a 197x?

Good luck. I looked for years to try to find a complete unit for my '73 85 for less than the $400 or so they always went for on ebay. I did not succeed.

No it will not.

EDIT: strike that, I didn't originally read that you said 1980's. If it did fit (which it probably wouldn't) would it have enough power to overcome the additional HP?

it would have exact same power as the 1970 unit since it is the same pump (psi) and rams (square inches) mounted with the same geometry (leverage). The big question is the curvature, width, and bolt pattern on the saddle bracket.
