78 mercury, I/O , the prop tries to come out of the water in reverse. I checked the revese lever and I can blow air through it until the arrows line up with the small lines on the devise. (so I assume that it is working properly) any help?

Re: tilt/trim not holding

You say I/O. This is an OB forum. But anyway, any leg that tries (does, they all try) to come out in reverse means your T/T cylinders are leaking or you have air in the hydraulic system. After leg tries to come out, shift to neutral and see if there's an oil slick off the stern. If not, check the oil reservoir. It may be pumping air and the reverse thrust is simply compressing that air, allowing leg to rise partially. I assume leg doesn't just jump out of the water.

Re: tilt/trim not holding

Thanks for the reply, I have not found any leaks on the cylinders. I believe that it has air in the system but, I have no luck bleeding the system. Other forums have said just keep raising and lowering the unit to bleed the system. Tomorrow I am going to label then remove all the lines to the cylinders. Then drop them in some oil. Run the pump up and down. This should remove all the air correct?
