I have just bought a 1977 Evinrude 85 hp with a tilt trim that is leaking down within a few seconds after raising to the highest position. The model number of the motor is 85799S, the tilt motor is 172655. A friend raised the question if this is a tilt and trim or tilt only. I have searched several times and can not find the answer.
As far as the leak down is concerned I plan on installing a new kit, Is there any suggestions here. The electrical part seems to be working fine, is re-kitting the ram all that needs to be done? Obvious I am new to this. I did rebuild one tilt trim unit and had success so ready to try another.
