This has not been a good year for my boat (15' Whaler 88' Yam 70ETLG). I am replacing big-ticket items on my boat at an alarming rate. Most recently I had wiring and solenoid issues. I now realize I had it real good over the last three years when I had only minor issues. Anyways...
Today I took my boat out and while reversing, the motor kicked and nearly hopped out of the water. Immediately, I know something is wrong but can't see while on the water, so I make way for the ramp. After I haul out, I notice the piston on the power tilt assembly (the larger one, located in between the others) is out of place. I guess it snapped from the "bushing" part it usually is connected to. In retrospect, I was having problems with the tilt before I launched, but I never inspected the piston. I'm sure it was broken before I even hit the water today.
Does anyone know if repair places can source just the piston? I'm hoping to save some money, considering the cost ($550-650) for the whole assembly.
At this point, I'm ready to call the season a wash... Between this year's problems and the crappy New England rainy summer, it really lets a boater down. /end rant
Thanks for any assistance, advice, or similar stories!
