Have a 79' OMC engine...the boat has not been used in 2 years and am now pulling it off of someones hands to take a look at it. The trim/tilt does not seem to be working. When I push the trim/tilt switch a click happens in the back of the engine, appears to be on the solenoids...could this be a solenoid issue? It looks like there are 3 solenoids back there one for the up trim and one for the down? Am I correct on this anyone? How do I know if the solenoids are bad?... could use some help :D

How do I exactly bypass the solenoid with a jumper wire? Do I just connect the two wires that go on the solenoid posts together with the jumper wire? Is that what you mean?

Re: Tilt/trim Problems

jump across the two big posts, not the small posts. you will not have to connect anything, just touch the posts with a wire.

Re: Tilt/trim Problems

I am a little confused. The tilt and optional select trim are two different systems.

The optional select trim is controlled by the switch on the throttle handel and it raises and lowers the front of the engine.

The tilt is controled by a switch on the dash and it raises and lowers the outdrive.

If both systems are failing then I would check the 50 amp fuses on starboard side of the engine near the starter.

There should be 4 solenoids.
