I have a 77 Chrysler 85hp motor that I recently purchased. The previous owner said that I needed to add SAE 30 engine oil in it (also Clymer manual ). I read on this forum that I could use transmission fluid which I have on hand and used that instead. I removed all of the lines and flushed out the old oil (which had water in it). After re-installing the lines and adding fluid, I tested the pump and all I get is fluid leaking out around the manual release button. Is there a kit I can purchase to rebuild the valve body?

He was right

They were wrong. See where the can of ATF says "specially formulated to reduce gunk and keep your transmission clean"? Well, turns out that your orings are gunk too and the additives try to dissolve them.

You were doing good up until you used the ATF

Nope. If the kit included all the parts needed to fix every variant of the valve body then it would cost more than having yours rebuilt. And if such a kit existed and you were willing to pay the extra premium then you'd probably have a 50/50 chance it working. I almost put together a kit a few years back but the deeper I got into it the more i realized it was a lose-lose scenario. Just buy a new or rebuilt one for $140-$250 and be done with it.
