I have a 1983 85hp Force engine. I raise the motor and it falls down very slowly. I am assuming there is something wrong with my power trim/tilt ? Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Any help on this matter would be great!

Re: Tilt/Trim Question. PLEASE HELP

It is the pump valve body. Not always but at least 98 out of 100 times. You need to have yours replaced or rebuilt. costs from $100 to $600 depending on whether you do new or rebuild and whole pump or just valve body. Pump rebuilding is not a good DIY project. Very hard to find parts and no written manuals.

Re: Tilt/Trim Question. PLEASE HELP

Below are e-mails that I have recieved from marines.....Any truth to these?

I assume that it is slipping down after you take your hand off the switch.

There is a manual release screw at the bottom of the motor. It is used to lower the motor if there is no power. The screw might be in the open or slightly open position . Try opening and reclosing the screw

Jason without checking it no. It could be a hose, a ram, or pump. If you would like drop it off we could est it after we check it we are currently two weeks out thanks

Re: Tilt/Trim Question. PLEASE HELP

What can I say?

Why should they spend time trying to hunt down unlisted Force parts when the Evinrude owners will pay them twice as much and all the parts are listed on BRP's website. They are going to flip through their mercury parts books and find everything labeled NLA. When they see the $600 part listed with mercury then that's what they use. If you don't like it then great. The Yamaha owners will pay twice that with a smile and it only takes half the time.

okay - try this. Go look at you engine. Do you see any manual release screws? There should not be any.
How about hoses? you see any rubber hoses? Think about it. No sane marina is going to spend time hunting down unlisted parts for your engine. There is no possible way for that to turn out good for them.
