I need to replace my tilt and trim senders on my 1992 alpha one outdrive. There was nothing wrong with the wires but water got inside the sender rusting the reostat. I know that I will need to pull the outdrive to properly replace the two switches but is there another way. What is the reason why I cannot just cut the existing wires and then splice and seal with silicon to prevent water from contactin the wires.

Thanks in advance,

Re: tilt trim question

Not really a dumb question. I bought a new trim sending switch a few years ago. Didn't want to take outdrive out to pass the wire through the transom, so I cut the old one out and spliced in the new one. Used a tube heat shrink connector and then coated it with 3m 101. Worked great and saved a ton of $$.
