Tilt/Trim Slow going down

Hello, I am having an issue with my tilt/trim on a 1984 Mercruiser 260. The issue is it works great in the up direction - fast and smooth. But going in the down direction it is very slow. It will eventually make it but seems to take forever. I am assuming this might be an issue with a valve, but is it repairable or replaceable.

Also I examined my trim motor/pump and examined where the lines are going in and out. How do you check this for oil level/contamination. It looks like you only can check the top to see if the level is ok, but how do you check for water in system?

thanks!

You need to go up to the "adults only" section above. #9, download manual #6 alpha 1 manual, and look at section 5A Trim pump. They have a section on testing and repairing the trim pump. Good luck.

Re: Tilt/Trim Slow going down

Thank you for your quick response - I did some research and found a link to
the actual trim pump/motor that I have - an oildyne Power trim pump with a metal reservoir. Here is the link if any one had an mid 1980s 260 mercruiser and wants to identify their system (squarish motor and round metal cylinder for fluid/pump:

Next I think I need to replace the down pressure relief valve, and probably the filters in the part. So my next question:

I can find references to a Trim Rebuild Kit - but no list of the actual parts for this kit. What is in the kit? -Mercruiser part #99073A2. I can buy some of the parts individually, that I think I need but is the kit what I need?

Anyone familiar with this REBUILD KIT-TRIM? Any other rebuild suggestions?

Thanks!
